Standing 42 feet tall on top of Mount Cristo Rey is "Sierra de Cristo Rey", Christ of the Rockies. The limestone statue was sculpted by Urbici Soleras as a monument to the 19th centennial of his redemption. The mountain is in Sunland Park, just across the state border from El Paso, Texas and only a few miles from the border of Mexico. Thousands of pilgrims climb the 1,000-foot high mountain on the last Sunday in October for the Feast of Christ the King and participate in a bilingual mass.
